Support the Easter Sunrise Service at Red Rocks!

The Denver Post’s headline from April 7, 1947 says it all!  Since that time, the annual Easter Sunrise Service at Red Rocks has had a lot of history and tradition. At that first event, “Fifteen thousand early arrivals crowded into the Red Rocks theater, built for 9,000, but perhaps 35,000 others were still in automobiles lined solidly on every road of the park as the service started.” The Rocky Mountain News wrote in the caption for a photograph of the capacity crowd that “Dawn breaks over the awe-inspiring Theater of the Red Rocks as thousands gather to hear the story of the Resurrection retold.” The Colorado Council of Churches has been proud to organize and host one of the most spectacular Christian worship experiences in the Rocky Mountain region, and we need your help to keep doing so in the future.

Based on the accounts I read in The Denver Post and The Rocky Mountain News, some things haven’t changed much since that first Easter Sunrise Service. We still get massive crowds, anyone is welcome to attend, we have a great time celebrating the Resurrection of Jesus Christ through music and the spoken word, and we do it all in about an hour.  Oh, yes, I forgot to mention another important fact: we do this all for FREE.

The one thing that has changed over time is the cost of putting on this event. All that it takes to put on the Easter Sunrise Service–reserving the venue, putting on the production, printing up the programs, staffing, broadcasting it to those who are unable to attend all, for example–while keeping admission free necessarily costs money. Though we welcome the generous donations that we get at the sunrise service, we don’t always collect enough money to cover all of our expenses. This year, we aspire to raise enough money to help  cover our expenses for the sunrise service for this year and years to come, as well as further support the work of the Colorado Council of Churches.

Here are FOUR easy ways that you can help:

Though we appreciate your generosity any time during the year, we would appreciate receiving your tax-deductible donations by April 30th. That’s when we settle up our bills for service itself. Thank you for your support, and please share this email with others!
