Conservation Colorado, a statewide environmental advocacy organization, and the Ecumenical Catholic Communion (“ECC”), a denomination of independent Catholic faith communities, have joined the Colorado Council of Churches (“CCC”). The CCC is a religious, ecumenical and social justice organization representing twelve Christian denominations and over 850 churches across Colorado.
“We’re excited to fellowship and work for social justice with the Ecumenical Catholic Communion! They are the first denomination to covenant with us since we changed our structure in 2012 and opened our membership beyond the mainline Protestant denominations. We look forward to the new possibilities this covenant relationship will bring,” said Adrian Miller, Executive Director of the Colorado Council of Churches.
“The Ecumenical Catholic Communion of Colorado is delighted to join the Colorado Council of Churches as a covenanting member,” added Fr. Teri Harroun, Vicar of the ECC’s Rocky Mountain Region. “We have witnessed the CCC’s dedication to walking in faith ecumenically working collaboratively for justice including influencing public policy. We look forward to being partners with the CCC in doing God’s good work in Colorado through prayer, workshops, and action.”
“Conservation Colorado brings years of experience to the table, and I know our faith leaders and congregations will be energized by this collaboration,” Miller enthused.
“Conservation Colorado is committed to building a more inclusive environmental movement, involving people from all walks of life. We are thrilled to partner with the Colorado Council of Churches, knowing that the faith community is deeply committed to the stewardship and care of our state’s air, water, lands, and people,” said Pete Maysmith, the Executive Director of Conservation Colorado.
Rev. Hollis Booker, the CCC’s current board president, remarked of both entities, “On behalf of the board, I am pleased to welcome you to the Colorado Council of Churches family.”
