AGAPE PIE SOCIAL on SEPTEMBER 16TH!
Churches Coming Together for Blessings, Breaking Bread (pie crust, actually) and Building Relationship
Join us for a time of Christian praise and fellowship as we come together to explore how our diverse churches can build relationship. Last year, we held a “Soulful Sunday” potluck lunch to explore such possibilities. This year, we’re going to have a pie social, and we’re asking you to bring a savory or sweet pie that represents your cultur…al heritage. We’re greatly expanding the definition of pie to include: b’stilla, calzones, empanadas, Jamaican patties, pizza, knishes, quiche, samosas, tarts and anything else that could conceivably be called a pie.
We also ask that during the pie social, you sit with someone you don’t know who attends a church that is diverse from yours, have a conversation, and starting thinking about ways that your congregations can build relationship over the next year. We’ll have some suggestions for you, but we’ll leave it up to the congregations to decide what will work best.
We’ll also have a brief worship service with music and reflections on how we in the faith community can bridge the racial divide in our country. Our hope is that we leave this event with several churches paired up and committed to building relationship. In a year’s time, we’ll follow-up to see what beautiful expressions of Christian unity have flourished.
